When Good Diapers go bad

Tori and I have learned the hard way that it is very important to make sure the diapers are secure and ‘installed’ properly.  This is what happens when a diaper leaks.  It could have been worse – much worse.  We performed a quality assurance check after this incident and are pleased to report there have been no incidents.  We like to think this was just an isolated occurrence due to a defective diaper.  I’m going to write a stern letter to the manufacturer.

A return visit from Aunt Ondrea

Overall our families have been very excited about Turner.  He’s a great addition to both sides.  We’ve had several visitors up to see Turner and help out.  We even had one visitor return twice.  As you may recall, our cousin Ondrea was the first family member to come up and see Turner.   She had a short stay and we (Turner included) thought it would be a good idea to have her back up to help out.  We called Ondrea and while on the phone she booked a flight.  Let me be the first to say, it was great to have Ondrea back up to help out.
Since she had already been up to visit earlier and she kind of knew everything that had to be done this time around.  On top of the normal diaper changing and rocking Turner to sleep, Ondrea helped Tori bathe Turner (he didn’t cry during the bathe that Ondrea gave him) and took us out to brunch at one of our favorite restaurants.   Turner, Tori and I will be flying down to Atlanta in the near future to see his Aunt Ondrea (and the rest of the Atlanta clan including my mom, Tori’s aunt, two of my sisters, some of my Atlanta coworkers and close friends).
Overall, we’ve been really lucky to have family come up and help out during the first month.  Thanks to all of the friends and family that have come over and helped out.  To everyone who has plans to visit in the next two months, thanks in advance. Turner can’t wait to meet you all.

Side note, that pose in the picture might look familiar.

Save the Date: Turner’s Baptism

I was able to confirm the details with our Pastor, Father Joseph M. Corley today.  Turner will be baptized after mass on Sunday, March 27th at 12:00pm.  The ceremony will be at our church, Blessed Virgin Mary in Darby, PA.  It will be a Catholic ceremony.
The Sacrament of Baptism is often called "The door of the Church," because it is the first of the seven sacraments not only in time (since most Catholics receive it as infants) but in priority, since the reception of the other sacraments depends on it. It is the first of the three Sacraments of Initiation, the other two being the Sacrament of Confirmation and the Sacrament of Holy Communion. Once baptized, Turner will become a member of the ChurchJ.

What’s in Turner’s diaper bag?

We’ve started to take Turner out to brunches and church.  Our routine is pretty good and with our car seat getting him in and out of the car is not a problem.   One thing that has been bothering me is the diaper bag.  Specifically, I wonder if we have everything in there.  I started doing some searches online to see what we should pack.  I want to be prepared but don’t want to have the bag overcrowded.  With that said, here is a good list of recommended items.  Tori and I will probably modify to suit Turner / our needs but overall it looks pretty good.
When it comes to diapers, everyone says take more than you think you'll need, as many as one for every hour of your outing.  Luckily we only go out for 2hr intervals but we have about 10 in there – just in case.  We also have a small box of wipes. Personally, I think we could use more of these but I don’t want to carry them.  We also have a foldaway changing pad.  We have both a blanket and a burp cloth.   Most sites say that we should bring two burp clothes so we might take that advice.
In terms of clothing, we have an extra shirt, pants, and pair of socks for baby.  I’m also going to add a sweater since its pretty cold for the next few months.   We’re starting to travel with at least 1 bottle too.  We plan to stay out for only 2hrs but you never know.   We also have two toys with us, although Turner will probably be more curious about his environment.   We also travel with two pacifiers and wipes to clean them.
All of the above mentioned items were already in his bag.  Now some new things we learned were to include a few large plastic bags for sealing and tossing dirty diapers or for taking home soiled clothes.  We are also going to include our business cards in case the bag gets lost.  Lastly, and probably most important, we are going to start carrying an index card with numbers for the pediatrician, a his god parents, and other emergency contacts.
What are we missing?  Let us know in the comments section.
